Preach it!

When I was younger one of the reasons I didn’t enjoy music is because I was bogged down by the studying and time commitment aspect.

As an adult I love music, and I spend much more time with it now than I ever did as a child. You gotta love and enjoy it first, then you’ll love the process of improving also

I wish I discovered what you're saying four years ago instead of just now realizing it. I played guitar and bass all my life at many levels, but at 70 YO decided to learn piano. I decided instead of just learning like I did guitar and bass I would go the teacher route and doing method books. I was progressing very slow I knew and started losing some interest because I knew what I wanted to do, but spent so much time just doing lessons. I finally hit me after a few years struggling I should of started piano like I did guitar and bass playing tunes I liked and learning whatever I needed to play a tune I want to play. In other learn music by playing music. Let the songs show me what I need to work on. Plus I'll learn to play things in a musical way and not sound like mechanical exercises.

So now I'm changing directions and decided to get into recording beats and songs and using what I want to create be the stimulus what I need to work on my piano playing. Taking this approach I listening to even more music now for ideas, I'm at the piano working out ideas, then hearing my playing and critiquing it listening to my recordings and most important I'm enjoying what I'm doing.

I need to start back testing my ear!!! I use to learn standards that I usually don’t play out on gigs and time myself on how long it would take for me play it straight through in record tempo!!!

Firstly play what u can do with the key/s u know in all 12 keys then learn the theory after.If u can't play even with 1 key then go and learn 1 or more key/s first.Theory will be easier after doing all these
