The Santiam Witch. Scary/Horror Stories.

In January 2010 in Santiam Junction, Oregon a daughter, who asked not to be named, was cleaning out her father’s bedroom as he’d just passed away the previous week. She stumbled upon something that not only baffled her but scared her death. She found her father’s journal and was surprised as she’d never seen him write in a journal and had no idea he’d been keeping one.

One journal entry from June 1st, 1960 scared the hell out of her….

I spent a number of years up in
the Santiam Pass, working for
the forest service fighting fires.
I never heard of witches in those
mountains. But I did hear about
witches in the Willamette Valley
to the west, particularly in
West Salem. The town was known
for them. Maybe the name of the
town of Salem, Oregon is a reflection
of Salem, Mass. Aliester Crowley
spent some time in this area, and I
found one of his books in a bookstore
along the Willamette River in this
area. I didn't buy it. Bad vibrations.
To my mind, this whole area has
a dark cloud hovering over it, even
on a sunny day.

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be true, but as a woman who grew up in Bend, Oregon we crossed Santiam more than I can count. It was such Beautiful dense forest. It however burned in 2020. The whole Santiam pass was devastated. I can tell you though it could be pretty creepy in some of the areas I'd explored when I was a teen.

Awesome stories! This was the third I listened to. I was alone in my room where it’s quiet and there are no interruptions bc everyone is asleep so I was really focused on each story being told. So much so that my heart was beating rapidly and I became nauseous a couple different times. I LOVE being pulled in like that. Thank you for sharing these tales- real or not, I’ve been genuinely creeped out! I can’t wait to listen to more but I’ll only listen under these same circumstances bc they’re just too good to waste by listening half-heartedly and without 100% of my attention. Excellent narration I love this man’s voice. Why don’t kids ever listen when parents warn them of danger. Poor little guys. Moral of this story, never stay in the Forrest after dark and try not to separate from your group. There is so much we do not know know about. Stay safe kids and don’t stray far from home. It’s never worth it.

Damn, we used to camp and hike in that area all the time in the 60s and 70s when I was a kid. I’m 57 and my mom passed a few years ago. I miss her like crazy. But as I read the thumbnail for this, I heard my mom’s voice say “Santiam Pass” like it was yesterday. While listening to this I kept wishing that her father had been writing a piece of fiction. I still am.
