Motorola RAZR+ Review: The Flip Phone You Don't Need To Open

Small phones are dead. The iPhone mini is done for; Sony's Xperia Compact is long gone; and even the Pixel A-series is a fairly big 6-inch candybar. Unless you want to import something like a Unihertz Jelly, the age of the miniature phone is over.

That is ... unless you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior, the Hinge.

Yes, it's foldable time again – and Motorola's new Razr+ is the very definition of the best of both worlds: it's a clamshell flip phone that lets you spread out on a big 6.9-inch screen, then fold that screen in half to produce a phone that fits in almost any pocket.

"Sure," you're saying, "but so what? Flip foldables have been doing that for years." Well, the thing that sets the Razr+ apart is how much it can do ... without you ever needing to open it.

[ABOUT MRMOBILE'S MOTOROLA RAZR+ REVIEW/RAZR PLUS REVIEW]

This video was produced following two weeks with a Motorola RAZR+ review unit provided by Motorola. Pre-production device running pre-release software.

In exchange for early content capture with the RAZR+ and a one-hour exclusive head-start on the review embargo, MrMobile provided Motorola with his first impressions of the device several weeks ago.

However, Motorola did not receive any feedback after review devices were seeded; the company is seeing this review at the same time as the general audience. No payment was provided and Motorola had no editorial input or copy approval rights concerning this review.

I think from a durability standpoint, keeping people on the outside screen for longer will protect the inside screen more!

If I had 2 award, I would give Michael 1 award for ''the best phone reviewer on youtube''... and 2nd award for ''the best story teller on youtube''. that is some amazing editing skills, with voice over. Great job man.

Typing this comment from the closed RAZR+ while watching the review on my TV. This phone has actually blown me away. I can't believe how much you can do from the outside screen.

I honestly think phones will keep trending in this direction. Flip phones didn't go away because people didn't like them, they went away because we couldn't fold our smartphones. The future is definitely in form factors that can change in size. Once Apple gets onboard it'll become the default mainstream style and we'll get to see even faster improvements from the likes of Samsung and Motorola.

I'm excited to see the progress on small flips, because I would prefer that over carrying around a tablet which was the headliner for these things.

Michael, I just adore your eloquent, highly descriptive review videos that still have the perfect blend of fun as well. Respect.

Absolutely adore the camera review section of this review. Love in depth camera comparisons, feel like I don't see enough of them.

Its been 7 years since I switched from a Motorola to OP and I still miss the chop chop and twist gestures

I had the opportunity to quickly test this phone and it is awesome. Unfortunately, here in Brazil, it costs ~USD1.5k. Maybe in 2030, those phones get cheaper so we can afford. Great video as always, Michael!

Jeez dude. This review was incredible. This definetly might be the first foldable/flip phone I get next to my S23 Ultra.

I usually hate those people who gush about the video and how it's made. But I have to say, these videos are looking nicer than usual.

I love the little puns and gimmicky visuals. Gives me a vibe that this editing was way more thought about then the usual YTer. Keep up the good work, impressive

Wow, brilliant review as usual. You know, to me, this Razr+ seems like the modern version of the Razr V8, and the Razr 2019 does indeed resemble the original V3.

Awesome always. Love this guy. It’s like watching a very well made documentary by a whole production crew. Never disappoint. Thanks Michael.

While I think it's the shame we lost the iconic RAZR hardware design, the practicality of the cover display is incredibly helpful, especially when you can do that much without even opening it. I really hope this gives Samsung a tinge of concern and pushes them to innovate more with the Flip 5, even if the cameras on the RAZR+ are mediocre. Well done once again on this review Michael.

Pretty amazing review Michael! I wish that Motorola offered a similar thing that Apple did with "Photographic Styles", that should allow for making the color science much better than what a folding phone's physics would allow. Have a great upcoming weekend!

I bought a Samsung Z Flip 3 because of Mr Mobile, and it looks like in about a year I'll be replacing with the Motorola. Great review.

Since I had Motorola Flipout in 2012 I always wanted flip phone with full half screen and finally they nailed it after 10 years.
