Besides the P71 perks that you mentioned, there is also: Beefed up frame points, transmission cooler, upgraded alternator, steel wheels, special tires, beefed up suspension springs and extra shielding around the gas tank.

You legit made me want to get a crown vic. Now I can run my music, popcorn popper, and coffee pot all at once!

Love the seat covers and rubber floors! Anybody with kids should ask for those in their new car! They sure would have spared me a lot of stress when my girls were little.

Another thing to point out: The removable rear seat of the cruiser floats in water. Police sometime use them as a flotation devices when attempting a water rescue. You'll find several news stories about this online.

There should also be stabilizer bars, heavy duty alternator, heavy duty suspension, heavy duty radiator, high speed tires, "certified calibrated" speedometer, usually the speedometer goes to higher speeds than a civilian model, and some have an extra coolant line to keep the head cooler. That light isn't "a cheap light" its a "ticket light" for doing paperwork.

The reason the dome light has a switch is because the light doesn’t come on when the doors are opened. It’s a stealth thing. 👮‍♀️

I bought an unmarked Ford ex-police car at auction in 2002 and still drive it today. It is the most reliable car I have ever owned even after 18 years. When I bought it, the car was 2 years old and only had 28, 000Km on the clock and all the service books completely up to date. There is a powerful 4.0 litre straight 6 with 3-speed auto and still drives like new. Those engines are really rugged. There were two main differences I found on this car compared to an ordinary Ford of the same year. One was a dashboard switch to turn off the dome light when opening the door, probably for surveillance at night. The switch looked just like the other factory switches rather than an add-on. The other difference is that the speedometer has markings every 2km instead of every 5 or 10, and is calibrated for accuracy. You can electronically adjust the accuracy using the trip meter button on the dial. I calibrated it with my GPS speed setting and it works beautifully. I love my 18 year old car and hope to keep it for many more years. The other bonus was that it cost me about 40% less than what I would have paid at a dealer for a similar model in a worse condition. If I ever need to buy another car, it will be from the police auctions.

It's a bit surprising that Ford ended the Panther platform, as it was not only the last of its kind but quite well-suited to being turned into a police vehicle. Tons of room, good power, and nearly indestructible. Sure, they've got all kinds of newer vehicles now that probably handle a bit better and make more power, but they're not build like a tank like the Crown Vics were. I imagine it takes a lot more effort to turn those newer vehicles into a police-ready version than it did with the Crown Vic.

The grand marquie (mercury's version of the crown vic) it had the trunk release and the fuel reset. These were standard features for cars and they started around the time these cars were made.

Interceptor is a great car. You got a steal on this car, very happy for you. It is also supposed to have a better starter / ignition I'm told than the standard Crown Vic.

I had a 1999 maybe ten years ago. Bought it for $500 and replaced the intake manifold which added another $200. Lasted for three years before the transmission blew out. It didn't have the adjustable pedals but it did have the traction control switch, right where the pedal control is on yours. It also didn't have the power plugs that yours has, just one in the ashtray. The rear seat was brand new as the department that it worked at replaced the original seats with hard plastic ones, and stored the originals in a warehouse until they were retired, then the original never used rear seat was put back in as part of the stripping.

That car was a lot of fun.

A federal mandate made glow in the dark trunk releases (in all vehicles) a requirement in US sold vehicles in 2002

P71 is i think one of the best cars ever made, smooth powerful and built like a rock, i dont think there will ever be another car built like this again with all the crap regulations car companies have to go thru, great video guys.

Mine also still had the 100watt PA still attached...and under the flooring there was about 70’ of wire, several sizes from a smallish battery cables to regular 18ga wires.

10/10, would buy another in a heartbeat.

This is such bullsh*t that you’re hiding all the donut features

That glow-in-the-dark pull-tab is standard on almost every car. Even my decade-old Corolla has one.

Edit: OK, I just looked it up. Sure enough, it has been mandated on all new cars sold in the USA since 2001. The ergonomics were conceived for babies to fixate on and pull towards their mouths if they were ever stuck in a trunk so, no, it wasn't something from police cruisers that filtered down to consumer cars.

I drove Crown Vic police interceptors as a police officer for several years and ours didn't have half of the features that you're showing. We didn't have stab proof seats, bulletproof doors, Kevlar package trays in the trunk or adjustable pedal systems.

Very cool break down of the features. Not too long back they were priced at auctions because the motors were a bit better too, especially the pursuit mustangs.

Interceptors tend to have heavy duty brake lines, heavy duty radiators, and heavy duty hoses too.
