I'm 100% positive that this did happen. From what they're implying in The Book of Boba Fett season 1 finale and Cad Bane's metal plate on his head. It could also be the reason Cad wore armor after his duel with Boba.

There are actually two answers to how he got the dent.
The other one is from an official released comic where Boba faces off against Darth Vader while trying to keep from delivering an AI (if I remember correctly) to him. Vader deflects a blaster shot from Boba back into his helmet, causing the dent.

The dent was gonna link back to his brief time with the troops in the first Death Star when he hit his head in the doorway. He wanted to dent ever helmet he wore to set himself apart.

Actually you can see Jango bumping his helmet on his ship door in Kamino and after that the dent is visible 😂

Boba Fett is iconic, but Cad Bane will always be my favorite bounty hunter cause he's on a whole other level of bad ass.

It's unfortunate that Hunter lost because he is better than most people realize. Bane and Hunter are both very fast draws, but Bane is a street fighter and shoots quickly from the hip, but Hunter, being a soldier he shoots with his arm fully extended to get the best shot.

In attack of the clones you can see jango hit his head on the door entering his ship and you can see through the rest of the movie that jangos helmet has the same dent. That’s how the dent was made
