Sensory processing disorder is very commonly diagnosed with an autism spectrum condition.

People on the autism spectrum will usually display traits of sensory processing disorder. This could be overly sensitive or under the sensitive to certain things like touch sound smell taste temperature I’m closing .

There are many reasons that sensory processing disorder can be debilitating and very stressful and difficult for people on the autism spectrum .

However, sensory processing disorder can be noted independently of Autism but not officially diagnosed as a standalone condition.

This can cause quite a few issues for people who are wanting to get a diagnosis for access to help when the child isn’t displaying other autistic traits.

Sensory processing disorder, can be life debilitating for many people in the autism spectrum.

I'm autistic and deal with severe sensory processing disorder, my brother has ADHD and deals with sensory processing disorder, but my mom doesn't have either condition and she has sensory issues as well.
I don't have a formal diagnosis of autism, but my chart states that I have sensory hypersensitivity. I have also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I was given this formal diagnosis at the age of 18, but I have always struggled with the symptoms for both conditions. Sudden noises don't just startle me, they make me freeze which could be a safety issue depending on the circumstances.

Hi i was diagnosed as a kid with just spd but diagnosed as an adult with adhd. I actually have severe adhd but there was no criteria back then for woman. After several intense meltdowns as an adult im left confused wondering if im also on the spectrum. And now i find it interesting cause you mentioned spd isnt a diagnosis on its own. I found you in a different video and found what you said very relatable so im excited to learn more. Thanks

I’m not sensitive to heat, lights, crowds, balance, time, touch, taste, texture, rarely does senses borher(which all are joemal), nor movement of heart or brain(raging heart beat or thoughts), and sounds were the only sensory issue I had due to a traumatizing event as a child. Sirens don’t bother me as much as they used to. I am aurostic that had to deal with noise sensory issues this year.

As far as I know, in the US at least, SPD isn’t a psychiatric diagnosis, but is diagnosed by occupational therapists.

My wife and I think this maybe the case with our 8yr old daughter. My wife feels our daughter maybe autistic, I myself am not convinced. She’s very good socially and has no issues with maintaining eye contact. Academically she’s doing very well and her teacher who studies autism doesn’t feel that we have any issues. I just don’t see any of the signs most people say to look out for. We did try our doctor but they felt there wasn’t enough evidence to say she needed to be assessed.

However in terms of a sensory disorder then she might have issues. Most of the time coming out of the bath she will have her hand clenched and say there sensitive, she doesn’t always like lots of noise, not like in a show or concert that is fine, but say a lot of kids are simply shouting and screaming. We gave her some ear defenders so it would help with concentration, I thought she would have worn them most days in school, but to my surprise her teacher said she’s only worn them briefly twice during the school year. She also can be very fussy with foods, she could eat a food at home but if we went on holiday and ordered the same thing but because it looks slightly different she won’t want to know.

We are thinking of booking her in with a therapist who maybe able to help.

This whole video just went All I caught from it was a dog, a commercial for some headphones that it's too late in life for me to use & I don't have kids (fortunately for them), it's somehow ADHD month AND my birthmonth & I'm only finding out NOW when it's almost over, and it's also SPD-awareness month. Well? What even *IS* SPD & how is is different from Also, can you talk any FASTER?
