Here's Why Bed Bugs Are So Hard To Get Rid Of

Just three years ago, New York City residents suffered through a major bed bug crisis. Bed bugs, also known as Cimex lectularius, are small parasitic insects that feed on human blood while you sleep.

"Bed bugs don't carry diseases, but that doesn't mean they're not a public health pest," Dr. Jim Fredericks of the National Pest Management Association tells us.

Bed bugs leave red, itchy welts on its victims, and they're also really good at hiding — making them extremely difficult to get rid of. Oh, and they also have a genetic resistance to pesticides.

While the bed bug crisis of New York City seems to have calmed down, infestations are still on the rise and shouldn't be taken lightly.

I picked up a hitchhiking bedbug one time. We drove across 4 states and had a great time.

I had those little bastards in my apartment once. I had management spray the rooms and tried every kind of spray and powder on the damn market to get rid of them. Nothing worked until I finally broke down and bought a steam cleaner. I steamed my bed and couch for 3 days in a row and then never saw the little fuckers again. Had a friend of mine get em and loaned my steamer to her. After she steamed her house a couple of times, she never saw em again either. Steam cleaners ain't exactly cheap, but in my experience, they were the only thing that worked.

One time me and my mom got kicked out of our house and we went to go stay in a hotel and me and my mom are paranoid about bed bugs so she checked the hotel bed and found a whole chunk of bed bugs and then we went to go tell the manager and he didn't give us back our freaking money those little bastards

I just wish that they never even exist.. I'm just 12 and I'm losing sleep every night like staying awake and go sit on a chair because I am paranoid of those stuff crawling on me... why can't they just DIE and the worst thing is... my parents won't do nothing bout it, they said that as long as they don't kill u then bed bugs are normal, , I wish I was rich so when I have beg bugs I'll call bed bug exterminator every dayy!!

Quality steamer, a dryer, diligence, an afternoon of elbow grease, and it's done. If you have carpets.. maybe not. A good steaming day will kill 90-98% of them and a few good steams, I haven't seen one or had a single bite in two years. I put out traps all over the home and nada. Supposedly, my place was infested and my lowest quote from a pro was 1200. My steamer was 100USD. Moreover, I love my steamer. Good for cleaning other stuff, ironing clothes, and if I had to, I could use it as a weapon. That shit is hot!

As long as you stay on top of things it doesnt have to be the end of the world. It takes time but it is possible to get rid of theme

There is a Hotel called Hampton Inn, in Leesburg Florida. If you do not want any of those little hitch hikers to come home with you, stay away. The removal procedures are not to standards.

I read a research paper from 2014. Chagas disease is what I read. Thanks

Use Gliricidia sepium, a plant species. Gather lots of stems and leaves and place all over the house. Change the stems of leaves everyday or two days.. Boil some leaves with the stems and bathe in it pat dry only don't rinse.
The smell drives them away. But they could transfer to another place. You will see improvement in 5 days. Doing this while waiting for my sauna heater.

Not every one who has them knows, in an air bnb we found living ones for 3 days when they were biting and leaving nasty hives on me... but my husband never “developed a hive” so don’t know if they don’t bite him or they do but he is just not allergic

New neighbors moved in our apartments and in a few week I had some bites. I freaked out, scoured my place with a flashlight like a tweaker but, didn’t find anything. I still washed everything and dried twice, took off all the light switch and plug in plates and puffed diatomaceous earth in the walls and sealed the plates back in with vapor rub, and sprayed lavender and peppermint in the rooms 3 times a day. It’s been 2 weeks and I’m repeating these steps. Haven’t been bitten again so 🤞🏼

You can also just spray some alcohol around the room

Is standard bug spray effective? I'm getting annoyed of these things

Thanks for this informative video. The sense of humor made the fright of bedbugs easier to digest. ;-)
