Why Bees Thrive in Cities | One Small Step | NowThis Earth

Crucial bee populations are being threatened by habitat loss, chemical pesticides, and disease — but thanks to urban beekeeping, not all hope is lost 🐝
Global bee populations are in decline, but not all hope is lost. Cities can play a part in bringing them back.
Best Bees, the biggest beekeeping service in the U.S., has set up 1,000 beehives on rooftops in 13 cities.
'If you do one thing like have a green rooftop or you have a garden, that's really gonna help pollinators and that'll bring us food all around the world,' explains Noah Wilson-Rich, the founder of Best Bees.
The data shows that bees make more honey in cities, and they tend to live longer as a hive, partly due to there being more flowers in cities than on farms.
Drawn to the health benefits of locally sourced honey, Nicole Lindsey and Timothy Jackson's Detroit Hives has revitalized four lots in their city.
'That fear transformed into love,' Jackson describes the team's foray into beekeeping and educating the community.
