How to Test a Diode?

Diode checking method, #Shorts
By using DMM (Digital Multimeter) we can check the diodes, whether they are OK or Faulty,
DMM's have Diode test mode,

Diodes have two terminals Anode(+) and Cathode(-),
If we connect the Red probe of DMM to the Anode of a diode, and the Black probe of DMM to the Cathode of the diode, Then the internal battery of DMM makes the diode in forward-biased condition, So the DMM display shows a voltage drop of 0.5 to 0.8 volts,

If we Reverse the DMM probes means by connecting the Black probe to Anode and the Red probe to Cathode the diode gets reverse-biased, Hence the DMM displays OL (Overload) reading.

If the Diode passes these two tests then we can consider the diode "OK",

For a Bad diode, the DMM displays OL in both directions, Then it's an opened diode.

If the DMM displays the same voltage drop reading in both directions, then it's a shorted diode.

if both + and - orientation are OL, then diode is dead, if both + and - orientation reads a voltage drop, it is shorted. Ok, got it. Thank you for sharing this!

I have changed one diode. It reads .561 and the other 2 only say 0L does that mean they are bad

I'll know after i hook it up if the battery then has charge to it if it doesn't then it ain't working i don't have meters so the black side is plus the minus side is silver
