Societal expectations created by impoverishment means that female are often pawned off by their families to marry, as they cannot support their families financially (traditionally speaking in traditional societies). As they are seen as a burden due to not being able to financially take care of themselves in poor, traditional countries-- their own families marry them off to men, who are able to work in society. Families would obviously want their daughters to marry a man who can financially support her (and even them in many cases), so thus, they instill the mentality of marrying a man with financial stability. Social status is most often equated with financial stability. Thus, this mindset that has been ingrained into women from past generations, and can be seen in a present society that is JUST starting to normalize/de-stigmatize women in the work force, away from their homes and traditional home-making roles.

I'm sorry my brov. This is inaccurate. God diggers are after money alone. Hypergamy doesn't mean gold digging. Not all hypergamous women are gold diggers. Wealthy women and cultured women who are feminine and natural in their minds are all hypergamous. The ones who are not either are broken or 'settled'. Settled is not bad. Broken is not bad but needs fixing and healing. Many women leave a 50-50 man once they heal.
