Is There Life in the Clouds of Venus?

Показать описание
For more than 100 years astronomers have seen them; dark patches swirling in the clouds of Venus, visible only in ultraviolet light. Could there be life-forms thriving in the balmy zone ~50km above the hellish surface? On Earth, researchers find life everywhere they look, including acid-loving bacteria that could easily live in Venus’ air. Experts share what they know – and how they’re going about finding out – about this fascinating possibility.

What a timely video! Looks like they may have just discovered signs of life. If so, that would be absolutely amazing.

she tried so hard to avoid saying "life uh, uh, finds a way." It brought a grin to my face; then a scowl whens he mispronounces "niche."

There may be life in Venus's temperate upper clouds. It really is disappointing how Venus turned out the way it did just as it is disappointing the way Mars turned out. If only the mars sized object never impacted one of Venus's poles flipping it over and making it rotate retrograde at a slow speed thus slowing it's magma flow in the mantle it would still have a habitable surface sigh. Also, if Mars would have been lucky enough to capture a ~2000 km moon orbiting only ~80k km away the tidal forces would have kept it's interior hotter. This would allow Mars to possess a magnetosphere, high geological activity more volcanic eruptions all of which would lead to the thicker atmosphere and liquid water on the surface.

well as some mercenary said ...

“If I owned this place and Hell, I'd rent this place out and live in Hell.” NICK CHINLUND - Toombs

The visible universe is mind numbingly huge but we humans are not the only intelligent life in the whole universe, out there somewhere there’s a star system with life going about it’s business like we are. Anyone agree?

Better leave those cloud creatures alone.

The surface of Venus isn’t the “surface”. The actual surface is like the bottom of the ocean. About 50 miles above the surface is the “surface”.

Why people dislike videos like these is beyond me.

I think in time they will find life everywhere in the universe. It just might not be 'as we know it.'

If there is life in the Venusian clouds, that is in some ways bad news because that life has had billions of years to transform the environment into something more hospitable, and what we see is the end result of any transformation it has managed to achieve. Also, having had billions of years to adapt it would almost certainly out-compete anything we might introduce. But on the other hand if there is no life there, and if we can find on Earth something that could grow and thrive in the upper Venusian atmosphere, then that raises at least the possibility of an *incredibly* rapid transformation.

Is niche pronounced nitch or neesh? I've heard it both ways, rhyming with pitch or quiche.
