This is just a few thoughts I had on what level of maths is best for certain people, and I also wanted to put out my own experience since I started in SL Maths and then decided that I wanted to move down! (For any parents being shown this as proof that your child should be allowed to move down, it's NOT a big deal!.. and it's worth the same amount of points, your child will get a higher score!)

i’m so glad that you took down some of the stigma around Math Studies. I’m not taking it because i CAN’T do SL or even HL, but rather because I don’t like math and I don’t need it to go to the university or get the career I want so why would I waste time that I could be studying literature and Latin on studying math when I won’t use or enjoy it?!

I have to agree especially with the HL/SL split decision with regards to only doing HL if your desired tertiary education course requires it. For me, I take HL Physics, Maths, and Chemistry with SL Spanish, Lit, Politics for context. Naturally, since I want to do engineering I have to do Math HL but now I'm only getting a 5-6 (just sat my exam (Nov2020 Australia) and I think it might be a 6). Whereas if I didn't want to do engineering I would just take that extra point as a 7 in SL since the content seems far easier.

Funnily enough, the standards at my school vary as we have a very small SL class, two equally sized (like 20 kids) HL classes, and then 3 kids taking Further maths HL. And for those taking the math HL course the standard is high too, I was below average on 70% last semester.

My school won’t let me take Math HL. They won’t let anyone, actually. And, if somehow you are accepted and you drop out, you owe the school $4, 000 for the course

Hi, this year I have gotten all 7 ns and 6 xes. I have though gotten one 2 in one of my exams. Do you think I will make it in HL maths for year 10? Note that I always do my work, never get in trouble and always follow my teacher. I asked my teacher if I could get into it and he said if I keep on working hard I will. I worked very hard… regarding my grades. Do u think I will get into HL maths for year 10?

In my school, there is no Math studies, there's only SL and HL, but I want to do History and Politics in the UK as an undergraduate student. So, could you help me what could I do. Actually till 10th std, I struggled a lot with Math, and due to recent reforms in my syllabus, I could take easier level of Math and successfully pass out with good grades.
I always wanted to get rid of Maths. But now I have Maths in 11th IB.
So could you help me, in making a decision?
