The Septuagint Unveiling the Hidden Books of the Bible

Показать описание
One important development in the history of the Bible was the translation of the Hebrew scriptures into Greek This translation known as the Septuagint was made in Alexandria Egypt beginning in the third century BCE The Septuagint was widely used by Greek-speaking Jews throughout the ancient world It also became an important source for early Christians many of whom were more familiar with Greek than Hebrew However the Septuagint contains several books and editions that were not found in the Hebrew Bible These extra books known as the Apocrypha or Deuterocanonical books included works such as Tobit Judith and Wisdom of Solomon The inclusion of these books in the Septuagint would later become a point of contention between Catholics and Protestants
