Bill Clinton on fighting impeachment

In this web exclusive, former President Bill Clinton tells Mo Rocca that despite what he calls the voters' referendum against Republicans in the 1998 midterms, the GOP and House Speaker Newt Gingrich pushed to impeach Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair as an exercise of power, and that he fought impeachment efforts to protect the office of the President.

He got away with far worse crimes, like bombing Afghanistan, Sudan, and Iraq, and using NATO to circumvent the Congress and go into Serbia. But yes, lying under oath to a federal grand jury and encouraging the government employee he was sleeping with and using staff members to send gifts to, to lie as well, is also a serious crime.

Well, I'm a life long Democrat and I'll tell you how I viewed that whole mess as it unfolded. I was embarrassed and angry that I, and our party, was shamed by your behavior. Mr. President, why don't you and the former Secretary of State go on a long vacation while the rest of us try to win elections in challenging states and become the majority party in the House and the Senate. Thank you both for your service, but please, please stop complaining. The past is the past, its our future that matters.
