Fun fact: every frame in cuphead is hand drawn, so every single possiblity, every action, every projectile, is all hand drawn frame by frame. Think of the work required to make just one battle alone, let alone the whole game...

Ribby and his brother Croaks were always getting into trouble--picking fights usually. But it was only a matter of time before they found themselves in a fight they couldn't win; they were ambushed by a hungry snake and needed someone to bail them out. The devil found them without much trouble, as he often seeks out the desperate, and promised them incredible strength at the cost of their souls. The contract was made, and true to his words, the brothers gained an increased size and amazing power...more than enough to dispatch the serpent who wanted to make a meal of them. The new fighters yearned to test their power and get even stronger; they invaded a fly showboat making port on Inkwell Isle, promising the flies that they wouldn't be eaten if they continued to provide Ribby and Croaks with strong fighters.

This fight, or Hilda Berg is the first real challenge you will have to face, the frogs methods of attacks can be difficult to manage. However they are very much focused on patterns. Learning them will make them quite easy.

The first phase is easy once you figure out what's going on, the tall frog will spit out fireflies that slowly home into your position, they can be destroyed with only 1 shot. If playing two player, if one of you has the shotgun, the guy with the shotgun can just act as an umbrella as the other shoots the boss. When the short frog starts spinning his fist, he will start shooting hadukens. While it seems intimidating it goes in a pattern which follows as "Jump, duck, duck, duck, jump." And repeat, some of the hadukens can be pink, however I don't recommend trying to parry them unless your sure it's the end of the attack, or that you can get back into the rhythm of dodging.

The second phase is also really daunting, with the tall frog trying to push you back, and the weird projectiles that the short one is throwing. However, there is a safe spot, run a bit past the start of the wind animation and try and stay there, that spot will prevent you from being instantly hit from a downward projectile, and if he launches upwards, you easily have enough time to move out of the way, I'd avoid dashing if you can, as the added movement may launch you into the short frog accidentally.

The final phase, the slot machine. Can be a bit of trouble. Firstly the coin it fires are easy to avoid, just make sure there isn't one in your path when you go to parry the lever. Once you hit it, you can get one of 3 results. Bulls: which are the easiest to avoid, just watch what direction the small flame is facing to tell you to jump up, or stay down, if your lucky, you can get multiple ups in a row, giving you time to deal pain uninterrupted.

Tigers is quite the nuisance, the balls that come all will float In the same way as the other balls, so find a rhythm in a spot and dodge away!

Snakes will test your footwork as it's just a giant trail of many platforms that deal damage on their sides, keep a good flow of jumping and don't pay much focus on the boss, I highly suggest not using specials during this attack, as there's a good chance once it ends, you will fall in between the platforms. Or, just plain ruin your rhythm.

That one fly with the cigarette doesn't seem to be paying attention to the big brawl in the foreground. That two fly show on stage must really have her attention...

Or maybe fights are really common there, what with Ribby and Croaks hanging out there all the damn time.

This made me imagine a scenario that has happened way before this fight:
Ribby and Croaks are in Devil's Casino, playing some games. They too get tricked by the Devil. But instead of pleading for help, Ribby punches the Devil out of his way and runs off, while Croaks turns into a fan to slow down the Devil, King Dice and everyone else who's trying to come after them. He, too, runs away after a while, but him and Ribby soon find out that they need a hiding spot. They find a room full of slot machines and fuse together into a slot machine to disguise themselves and blend in. Their chasers run by them without noticing them. After they've gone, the frogs revert the fusion and run away from the casino, laughing at the Devil's stupidity.
