Bonus if you find a school district that doesn’t require contracts. Keep in mind though that you’re only walking away with a class B CDL, not an A. So if you want to drive semis, this might not be the route for you to take. On top of that, a lot of class B trucks tend to be manuals, which you won’t be able to drive if you took your test in an automatic bus. So you do have limitations, BUT you still have a CDL which opens up a lot of opportunities for you, and when you can find a good job, you can cash flow your way through class A school, remove the auto restriction, add endorsements, etc.

I used to drive a semi truck in the 90s. I turned it in to be a housewife.. 20 yrs later, a new widow and i would do anything to get my cdl again. I unfortunatly have glaucoma now, I'd have to get a vision exemption which requires my field of vison to be a certain degree and my vision to be at least 20/40 in both eyes. Then drive only in the state my cdl is issued. I REALLY miss the road and could kick my ass over and over again for listening to my husband. He talked me out of keeping my cdl. HINT>> IF YOU GET YOUR CDL KEEP IT FOR LIFE. DONT GIVE IT UP. IF YOU GIVE UP THE CDL YOU COULD REGRET IT LIKE I DO.

This is exact question I was going to go looking for an answer for after catching up on your shorts Mr. Clawboss. I've been wanting to get my CDL and get into truck driving, but was clearly looking in the wrong places. Those trucking companies make it difficult since I've still got a full time job, so this might be just right!!

My wife got paid training at a garbage company to get her Commercial liscense. She had to take the written test for the learner's permit to qualify for the training. Many cities and counties give you paid training to get the appropriate liscense to drive their public busses. I would like to thank the Clawboss for sharing his knowledge...

Eh...trucking isn't what it used to be. 16 years in and I've seen the industry change so much... for the worse! Good luck to all you new truckers just starting out... wish you all the best..

I'm going to point this out because you missed it. Now they require you to get your permit before you go through training. This is for them to train you, meaning you have to go to your local DMV and pass 4 tests Air breaks School bus General knowledge and 1 other. These are hard because they require you to sit and read a massive book just to even take the tests. This is your CDL Handbook and half of the questions are not even in that handbook.
Then you have your 1 school year minimum to not pay them back. I chose to back down for a Airline job and accept a 5-10 Year contract to get my pilots license. I dont go in for another 3 years for this program. I'm a ticket agent now and get about the same pay, but more hours with free flight benefits and even life insurance.

I thought school bus companies only did class b or c with p but that could just be ny but ur very right tho even trucking companies do the samething but u get class a which to me if ur gonna get a cdl for straight for a class a then just add on whatever u want

Only class B. Need class A for tractor trailer. I have mine ABC with S&P

I'm 13 and my grandpa got a big school bus and i drove it is not hard at all i can back up a school bus better than a truck

I'm from Pennsauken New Jersey, and our district has a driver's needed sign on the back of every bus with the phone number to call 🤣😅
