During the 1986 World Cup in Mexico the Goal of the Century was scored in a hotly contested game between England and Argentina. But that game had another goal. A goal we all remember.

“A little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God.” - this is the story of the Hand of God. Written by Seb Stafford-Bloor, illustrated by Philippe Fenner.

crazy how two of the most famous goals ever were scored by the same player in the same game

It doesn’t compare to the hand of god at all, but I have to say that the Suarez 2010 handball against Ghana is probably the most memorable handball in recent football history.

If this game happened during the social media era it might’ve broken the internet

I never realized how much pain england still feels to this day to the point of almost ignoring the other goal

“The man they can’t contain” “FANTASTIC!!! World Class in the best sense of the place” “i don’t think I ever seen a football player like him in my time” just some of the English commentators lines about Maradona in that World Cup, he was truly unplayable and uncontainable that year. RIP.

the British will never get over this, but since they manage their own narrative, they keep saying and pushing for the tale of this being the most controversial goal? they conveniently forget the ghost goal given to England in their final against Germany in a WC marred by terrible officiating that would coincidentally almost always benefit the Britons - but hey, as they say, people are entitled to have their own fantasies

It speaks volumes that this happened the year before I was born but it has been talked about and televised so often I feel like I remember it happening!

To be fair the ref should've made Diego's second goal count double for its brilliance.

The most controversial yet the most iconic World Cup goal of all time

That handball was not that obvious for the ref, even on VAR you have to slow rewind it (frame by frame) at least 3 times to actually see it

Love how Lineker's goal doesn't even get a mention.

Man imagine if replay was around. Would've been reversed. Its still sad that Football took longer than other sports in implement a replay system but even still computers have been around since the 90's and yet it had take more than that to get a replay review system in.

England’s long history of old keepers forgetting how to jump

It was awful goal keeping from Shilton. He was happy to let Steve Hodge take all the blame. Same for the Semi-Final goal against Germany in 1990. He let Paul Parker take the blame, but someone with two broken legs could have jumped higher than he did trying to save it.

I remember by gradfather fuming, more than 50 years past it, about that 1966 Quarter Finals. He swore that Argentina had the better squad and would have become champions had it not been for the German referee.
