I think the clock at the end actually simbolizes the fact that all the people enumerated before that scene (who are people that eventually died) will live on, because the clockmaker said in the beginning of the movie that he designed the clock so that the people who died could come back home

This movie to me is about living life to the fullest. Benjamin traveled the world and saw all that he could. Many of us will die leaving this world just know the little town that we live in and never truly experience all that this world has to offer with its wonders and beauty. Another thing it's about is true love.

I always thought it'd be an interesting twist ending if the clock started ticking forward again and it was revealed Benjamin would now start aging in the correct direction, maybe losing his dementia along the way.

The clock represents the forward movement in time For the nature of man, but time running backwards represents the act of involuntary control Going against the universal nature of The human condition Sending you deeper into the waters of the unconscious, Consciousness while in the unconscious is a real thing to experience.

The human condition wether forward or backwards is pretty much the same. Baby are weak need care and to be protected. Youth lots of ambition not too much life experience or knowledge. Mid life now in your prime. Capable of taking care of yourself and even others like elderly parents or children. Mid to late life lots of knowledge but the body starts to regress and get weaker. That part the counter to young adults /youth. Late life you become weak both body and usually mind start needing care/help from others again. End of life expectancy of 75 years or so start to become like an infant again loss of most body and mind faculties. No teeth and are basically like a newborn. All the knowledge is jumbled or forgotten and body completely degrading into not functioning. Forwards and or backwards like in the movie he meets back up with the girl in the middle or strong part and are both in equal life states him going to infant her going to be old.

This movie is just Ok. Slow story..it picks up a bit when Pitt appears. I find the ending anti climactic but also sad that a baby dies..
