Thank you so much for this information!! I have been struggling with my 50mm lens and understanding aperture... this short has improved the quality of my pictures, I can't thank you enough.

This is good advice. When I first got my 50 mm 1.8 I was always shooting at 1.8 which was fine for the bokeh but not great for sharpness. However, when I started shooting at f2 or 2.8 it really sharpened up! And it still has pretty good bokeh even at 2.8! Love my Nifty Fifty even more now!

Had to watch twice, read the f1.8 to f2.2 as f22. LOL

is this advice the same when using a telephoto lens at full length, I'm talking about the zoom not the f-stop feature

Well, it depends how close you are to your subject. You don't fix everything by changing the aperture.

Don't care about sharpness persé! f/1.8 gives a great and special look. Other than that I agree

I have a question. Do you need different lenses for certain cameras? If so, what are the requirements

Not if you buy a good 50 like a cheap 50mm 1.7 manual m series for $40. Just have to know your lenses. But in general stopping down does help, but then why have a lens with a wide aperture if you not going to get the benefit of the short depth of field.

I bought sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 and it’s amazing! Put my 50mm back in its box

Cannon 50mm 1.8 is less than half (1/3may be?)of this..
Still its funny to go from my 700mm setup to glass like 50mm, 14mm.. its like pick up child toy.. 😂
