Gilmour Theory: Ep 15 | How two compressors work (Use this trick)

Here we go back with Gilmour Theory, episode 15!!
As many of you asked for, here's a video about the usage of two compressors. One of the greatest trick of Gilmour tone.
I'll take as example the setup he had during The Division Bell Tour in 1994, where he had on his setup three different compressors.
The CS2 was used on almost every song, but sometimes he combined it with the Dynacomp. Why? The CS2 makes the tone, the Dynacomp makes it a little fatter, increasing the attack but not the volume. That's it. To get this, follow the settings but use also your ear. We all have different setup and way of playing, remember, tone is not in pedals or in settings.

Managed to get my hands on a cs2 and it’s become my favourite pedal. Compression is often overlooked but it’s very important with Gilmour playing. I use it as an always on pedal.

This was something I didn’t know. Thanks for this!

His guitar has those EMG active electronics also that is DRIVING the compressions so this makes a big difference because the active electronics are low impedance also which the compressions are designed for high impedance passive pickups

I have a question for you if you might know the answer:

When I used my Boss CS-3 with an overdrive, it felt like I lost some gain in the tone(CS-3->drive) and the same thing happened when I tried with a Dynacomp(Block logo).

I have a Keely compressor now and that problem is solved(Thanks to the blend function), but was there any reason for this happening with the other two compressors?

Love your videos by the way, definently one of my favorite Gilmour tones on YouTube.

Definitely something to consider. I'm using a newer Dynacomp Deluxe, but I've started looking at the Cornish compressor. I also use the Hiwatt T40, but my preference right now is my Hi-Tone DG50.

The only thing that’s not totally right in your rig is the use of an Hiwatt T40. For Pulse, Gilmour used a Fender Amp and not an Hiwatt. And that’s change all things

Vedi che aveva anche l'ibanez cp9, quindi ne usava 3 di compressori..
