How to Change Rear Differential Fluid (Summary, Quick Version)

Learn how to change your rear differential fluid. In this process I unbolt the differential cover (pumpkin cover) because there is no drain plug. Then I make my own gasket with RTV because I couldnt get a gasket for this differential. Only basic tools are needed and anyone could do this job. I know you take your time to put these videos to help other people such as myself who knows very little about cars. What you also do is give people the push to try and do these things themselves instead of going to the dealer and pay their high cost. That 8.8 diff is not at all “hard to find a gasket for”, but you’re correct RTV works just fine. It’s good to clean out the “sump” area, the deep part just inside the bottom. Use a few paper towels or a rag to soak up and wipe out. That’s where the “gunk” will be.

Hey chris...i dont know if anyone mention this, about filling up the differential, but when refilling the diff, as it starts to over flow, allow it to drain for a bit so the fluid can level off itself with the diff pan. This was a very helpful video. Thumbs up bro
