Meanwhile, asian parents have a whole arsenal of "disciplining tools"

As an Asian that moved to Sweden, my teacher was shocked when I told them that my dad hits me.
Our family thought it was normal, since it's pretty normal in our country, so it was shocking how serious they took it.
Not that it's bad at all, it made him stop, but I do remember it being a surprise at the time why they cared.

Here in Sweden it's actually also illegal for a teacher to not prevent bullying if they witness it.

Yeye the rest of the world can call us pu$$ies but we get the last laugh as we get to have free Healthcare and free university and still have a successful free market economy with global companies like IKEA, Spotify, H&M and Volvo.

After getting spanked even with a belt on multiple occasions I can assure you negative reinforcement doesn't do shit, all it taught me was to be more sneaky and hidden with the bad stuff I was doing.

Man, hearing stuff about Sweden makes me think that it might be the promise land god was talking about in the bible.

In Finland we leave our infants in the middle of the forest at the age of 7. If they survive and return home with bear fur they are accepted as one of us.

They're not allowed to hit you, but they can hurt you in other ways.

My dad flicked me on the nose one time when I was 9 when he found out I had made fun of someone at school. While it was far from painful or abusive, it was the most horrific, humiliating feeling I’ve ever felt, and it taught me that beating your kids simply means that you don’t know how to parent. My parents never had to beat me or my brother, they were perfectly able to parent without violence even if we were bad.

Also kids that were beaten will, in my experience, grow up to be shitty/sad/fucked up adults.

Having been on the side of being physically disciplined as a child, I can say it left me with aggressive tendencies along with the inability to handle seeing others punished in the same way.
It’s relieving to know that there is a whole country where it’s illegal but still thrives as a society. Gives me hope I never have to do the same should I have a child.

I have to admit. Punishment seems good at first because of its immediate effects. But trauma unfolds in the long run. Like I'm a pretty fearless individual. My teachers can scold the fuck out of me and I'll accept it calmly (and fix the problems ofc). But I hear my guardian raise her voice just a tadbit towards other people and I wobble, my heart races. Honestly, I probably need therapy once I could afford it because I could feel the trauma deep within, but I'm just stuffing it deep bc I'd probably breakdown if I face it without professional help.

I wish I was born in Sweden. I wouldn’t have to deal with what I wasn’t supposed to.
Parents often breach the line of beating to discipline and beating to take out our frustration quickly, so yes I really hope the whole world adopts their law especially Asian countries.
