Historically the frontier with Spain has always been a pressure point, dependent on relations between Gibraltar and the Madrid government.

With Gibraltar leaving the EU, we went early morning to ask cross-border workers how they thought the change would affect their daily routines.

I believe I’m right in saying that Gibraltar overwhelmingly voted Remain, because they know that it will be hugely problematic.

We need to remember that Spain hasn’t changed anything- it’s the UK that chose to leave the EU and has to face the consequences of that decision.

Unfortunately, those consequences will affect all the people in Gibraltar who didn’t vote leave, as well as the current majority of the population in the UK as a whole that don’t want to leave.

Long-term, I think we can expect the breakup of the United Kingdom, with Scotland going independent, Ireland reuniting and yes, quite possibly Gibraltar integrating into Spain as a younger generation grows up frustrated with all the challenges of not being in the European Union.

Consequences.
