No pun intended, but Gibraltar is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

The UK never signed the Schengen Agreement and we could always have stopped illegal immigration at any time.I could never work out why we blamed the EU for that

Gibraltar has, without a doubt, one of the coolest flags around

The issue with the Schengen pledge is that it is a system that requires outside borders. Borders that would require even UK citizens to be checked at a border depending on the Brexit trade agreement. Effectively, Gibraltar will have to decide whether they consider British citizens as foreigners when entering Schengen or whether they’d rather have a boarder with the EU. Regardless, there will be a border to protect the single market.

Gibraltar should do what its citizens want to do.

Gibraltar bid to join Schengen should depend on it meeting certain standards that other Schengen countries respect. For that, they would have to stop being a tax haven and take a harder stance on money laundering.

In the 1950's/60's I was working in a Spanish Theatrical touring Company. Spain was ruled by Franco at the time. When our Company performed in La Línea it coincided with my 3 month visa needing to be renewed. There was no problem with that as just by crossing the border into Gibraltar for a day took me out of Spain and into British territory and I returned to Spain through the border later in the day and all was OK. Could that be a possible 2 way solution?

1:16 Uhm, isn't that explanation too euphemistic? I mean, it's quite simple: during the War of Spanish Succession the British invaded Gibraltar and it was ceded to them in the Treaty of Utrecht. That's was happened.

Could you make the same video for Jersey and Guernsey please? I would be really interested about the situation there

Gibraltar is free to decide what is best for it. We never hold countries against their will in this day and age.

Correction. Gibraltar is located in the south of the Iberian Peninsula. That's the whole point, it is not located in southern Spain.

Gibraltar should do what’s best for them.

I went to Gibraltar in 2009. Some people I met who work there said that because of the exchange rate that it was cheaper to live in Spain.

Nothing happens to Gibraltar before or after Brexit.

As Gibraltar had a vote in the BREXIT Referendum in June 2016, they voted overwhelmingly to remain in Europe. This result should be honoured and let Gibraltar
stay in the EU along side Spain. They can't have it both ways.

BOTs usually have autonomy with regard to their immigration. I think Gibraltar is on the right track with joining Schengen.
