Joel explains why opt-outs are not as big of a problem as people think, and provides solutions as to how Bowl Season can improve in the future. Joel presents some of his ideas on how to fix bowl season, including playing the national championship game at the Rose Bowl each year and giving the players a share of the bowl game revenue.

Absolutely the Rose Bowl should be the NCG every year on NYD! It's one of the most unique and special setting in sports. The fact that it's been relegated to a consolation prize most years is criminal.

Really my biggest concern/complaint is the incredible monopoly that ESPN has on post season college football.
There are 43 bowl games this year including the playoffs.
CBS has 1
FOX has 2
ABC has 2 (so ESPN)
ESPN has the remaining 38 bowl games.
Any other business in this country that holds that kind of monopoly would be under scrutiny.
All season I have wondered if there is a conflict of interest in ESPN having such control while also being in business with the CFP and the SEC.
I can't and won't make evidence supported claims but it is an incredible amount of control for one company to hold.
Also, WTF FOX?! How did you drop the ball SO BADLY on post season college football?
Id like to see the College game become like the Pro game and actually be in control and then spread out the games across a broader expanse of programming as apposed to being in bed with just one company.

Love the Rose Bowl idea. The Parade, the history, perfect weather, beautiful setting, plenty of hotel rooms, plenty of flights in and out of Southern California from multiple airports, maybe a pre-game run on the beach or hike in the mountains.

Holy smokes! Joel‘s wisdom must be rubbing off on me. I was literally talking to somebody today about how to make the bowls more attractive and I said “how about we pay 10 grand per player for some of the bigger bowls and maybe two grand for some of the smaller bowls. Only difference was I suggested it be winner take all. Then I turn this video on and Joel suggests almost the exact same thing. It’ll probably never happen though

One of the major aspects I really wish would be adopted when it comes to the Playoff is what Klatt touched on and it should be totally played on college campuses with the higher tiers hosting and reordering after each round including the natty. We got enough sanitized neutral sites to play games so much so there are handful to start every season now and of course the rest of the bowls that aren't Playoff teams. Campus environments and tailgating are what make college football special and unique

Rose bowl for the national championship would be awesome! The greatest game in college football history was that Texas vs USC Rose Bowl for the natty.

Joel, let me start by saying, I 100% agree. Your recommendations are spot on. Being a MI guy, I can already hear our elitist faculty and alum clamoring "that is not what they the kids go to college for, they are already getting their education paid for, not fair to all the other athletes on the other sports". That will be a tough hill to climb, the NCAA will not want to part with the money these student/athletes should earn. New day in college football. I hope your insight is given serious consideration. Great show!
