The saddest words,
He came to his own and his own knew him not.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of true wisdom...

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

This verse makes me think of someone who gets married. They are in the marriage, but they are there just for the comfort of being married and not being alone. They remain detached from their spouse and children. They rest on the routine and the "normality" and the acceptability. They never truly love or allow any vulnerability on their part. They never invest time into truly knowing and serving their family. Theirs is an enclosed and shallow sort of life, but they feel somehow protected.

It's not about mistakes but commitment.

He judges them justly because they reject his mercy.

I wouldn't take the verse as the worst. Scripture actually says it's worse to mislead a little one, or be a false preacher. Abyss being mentioned 💯📜🙌🥺

I’m always making mistakes that I suffer for, it teaches me that Gods commandments are there to live a better life. It’s just hard to live by them till I find out the hard way.

Given what is going on the the world right now, there is no better time than now to be hot for the LORD. He is coming indeed and a lot sooner than most realize

This was actually reference to the aqueducts from two of the surrounding towns. One town was famous for their hot springs that were relaxing and restorative like a hot tub and the other was cold springs that had befits for recovery. By the time the waters reached the town that Jesus was preaching in the water was neither hot or cold. So he was likening their spiritual conditions to the reputation of their towns water for being luke-warm and good for nothing water.

This helps us understand the point is less about it’s better to be good or evil than in the middle but more about not being good for anything like the stagnant water they were famous for.

I think that can still apply in terms of being honest and not apathetic but it can be argued that it’s not really the main theological point Jesus was making there.

It’s amazing how cultural context brings the Bible to life.
