the stop sign wrenches and so rare that my home depot or lowes didnt even have them in stock. they tried to sell me something called an allen wrench. i then called both my congressman and senator and they said they dont know anything about not wanting the public to know about leaky faucets which just tells me right there that they are lying

Stop signs are octagons. That screw is a hex … because it is a hexagon. One has 8 sides and one has 6

Cover the drain before taking the screws looose, a plumber should know the difference between hexagon and octogon and would caulk the spout.

As a fair warning, not all tub spouts have a set screw holding them on. Some are threaded onto the pipe that feeds the tub spout

homeowners; dont do what this guy just did. just replace the spout diverter seal. 2$ and five minutes. done. fixes the leak.

I would get a diverted valve repair kit & replace that first. Not all diverters come off like that & when people that don't know what they are doing installed them with pex. If you do have the screw then you will have hard pipe, galvanized, copper or brass. One step people forget when doing the repair kit is to clean the inside if the diverter. If the diverter is obviously old then replacing if would be a better option.

Stop signs have 8 sides the wrench you need has 6 sides. So don't look like a fool when you go to the hardware store and ask for an 8 sided tool that does not exist.

You can probably just change the gasket in that Lift rod by unscrewing the top part of the rod by hand or pliers and the rod will fall out the spout.
