Dr. Cooper, I had a natural birth 32+ years ago. I pushed for 3 1/2 hours using an overhead bar where my arms/head were in front of it and my legs were behind it! I have suffered coccyx ever since! During my 2 subsequent pregnancies, my hips would separate if I laid on my back and someone would have to put my legs back in place! I recently had a NEVRO permanent stimulator put in to assist with pain; however, it has done nothing for the coccydynia pain I suffer. Thanks to your video, I can now take something to my Orthopedic doctors. God Bless you!

Thank you, so kindly. A really supportive and reassuring video. It sounds I need a donut cushion which I will invest in to help ensure healing is more rapid and healthy. Currently on the fourth day today having sauna’d the past two days in a row, I noticed a dull raw pain at my tailbone today. More so the general area was uncomfortable up to today, I thought it was the pelvis maybe. The swelling has gone down I believe allowing the more acute awareness of what is tender, which is really great I’m guessing it’s only a bruise. I slipped on the bathroom floor landing on the hard tile. In pain the first night falling asleep, the next day it hurt to sit, the day after I felt stronger, the day after a little fragile but strong, today I felt strong but now nearing the end of the evening I’m noticing it throb a little. Maybe I walked too much today or it’s from sitting in the sauna room, outside on the cool hard ground, and on the bench outside. Would you recommend Tumeric capsules to help reduce inflammation, swelling or pain? I read Turmeric might work about as well as ibuprofen for reducing pain. Or would you recommend to let the body be as it is and heal without pain support? Thank you again.

Thank you so much for this video. Unfortunately I've been dealing with this since the beginning of June. I am better but I still have some pain. Although I had been having some very slight pain after sitting for too long, I crammed myself down on a stationary bike back in June for just a very short while and a few hours later I then had terrible pain. Horrible burning in the urethra and female region along with tailbone pain. I could not sit at all and was in bed for three weeks! I've had an MRI showing no obvious issue with the coccyx, and have also been doing pelvic floor physical therapy. Beginning to wonder if I will have some degree of this from now on. I have not tried the Voltaren gel so I think I will give that a go. I do have two different cushions and they do help....especially helpful early on when this first happened. Thanks again for your videos. I enjoy them and learn from them as well!

I'm suffering from coccyx pain for the last few days. Yesterday I was unable to pee while sitting on the toilet. I had to stand up, lean forward over the bowl and relax, then urine started flowing by gravity because I could no longer force it out. Paracetamol helps a lot with the pain and peeing but I need at least 2-3 grams per day. I'm gonna see my doctor tomorrow to rule out any severe causes because the pain came suddenly with no trauma and I'm a bit worried!

Hey Dr. Grant,

I injured my coccyx at the gym from improperly squatting heavy weight at the squat rack. Now it hurts to sit down.

I started using a rowing machine at a local gym about five weeks ago as part of my doctor's recommendations to lose weight. I have noticed that I have started having increased coccyx area pain as I have increased my time and distance on the machine. I have been careful to keep my back straight and my form correct to maximize the benefits of the exercise. Other than the coccyx pain, I really enjoy this workout and it is definitively improving my overall health. I don't know if I can use a coccyx cushion while on the machine (I think it might be difficult to keep it in place while doing the exercise). Do you know if that would work? Or should I just try treating the pain when not exercising? Based upon the video, I am thinking the later may be the best solution, but if I could use a device while on the machine, I think it would perhaps eliminate the pressure that is causing the pain. Any recommendations are appreciated and thanks for making this video.

What type of doctor should I see to have this diagnosed? To work with the pain would you recommend a physical therapist?

Would sitting somewhat upright but laying on one’s side (so resting on the hip or one side buttock) with the back supported be okay to relieve pressure for the tail bone to heal?

Not yet wanting to fully lay down, it feels somewhat better than sitting upright. Maybe pulling a little, or I’m simply tired sensing the tender area.
