Either sand the limb protrusions flat to the trunk or sand them down and make the edges rounded.

Leaving them standing out with their sharp edges is a safety hazard. Even if you don't mind the occasional gash or scrape in dark of night or from simple clumsiness, you don't know what visitors may be in your home. Babies, toddlers, pets, the elderly or mobility-challenged may handle smooth surfaces better.
