Harley Street Rod First Ride Review

For the re-invention of the Street Rod, Harley kept a keen ear tuned on the feedback from the bike’s predecessor (the Street 750… not the old V-Rod that went by the same name), and expertly improved on many of the original’s pain points. From a notably nicer fit and finish, to upgraded mirrors and brakes, the Harley Street Rod took a quantum leap forward in both attitude and aptitude for riders looking for a relatively light, nimble, and ridiculously fun addition to the HD lineup. More power. More comfort. More style. There really isn’t much to be upset about with the Harley Davidson Street Rod. In this first ride review Lemmy headed down to Florida to get a gander at this hugely anticipated model from Harley, and to see what all of the hype was about.

I had the pleasure of test riding one today. I was totally impressed. The lightness and flickability. The power. The suspension. The mirrors. The seat. The sitting position. All were very very good for me. I'm 5'6" with a 28" inseam. The exhaust location sucks if you want to put your right foot on the ground of which you don't rally need to. I kept my right foot on the peg and the pad made on the exhaust. Moving your right foot to the brake peddle is a little awkward. So that's not a problem either because I never even had to use the back brake. The front brakes were just fine and because this bike is so light you really don't need the back brake to come to a complete stop. Just put your left foot down after a complete stop and it's that easy.

This bike is awesome. I have one and have almost 1000 miles on it and the power, quality is just great . It's a daily commuter for me in city traffic but also great for weekends up in the mountain curves and some interstate rides too. Put a speed merchant slip on and it sounds great too .

Hey Thanks Lem for the review! I purchased my Street-Rod as my middleweight bike (I have an 08 ZG1400 and a 15 TU250X) and your review helped weigh into that decision. The XG750A has become my primary ride for it wears so many hats well. I just crested 5K miles on my new HD (2 months of ownership) and i have shaken loose some pretty concerning issues however the motor company has stood behind the bike and it's holding up to my riding style. Don't get this bike thinking it's a Sport bike. I got this bike looking for a MODERN STANDARD motorcycle and that is what the XG-A is... Thanks again for your honesty!

I bought this bike and it is awesome. I added a speed merchant slip on and tuffside rear fender eliminator kit and super tall boy seat that really make this bike look fantastic and ride is so comfortable now.

Your main surprises should be inverted forks and dual front calipers. Finally not a shit front end

I've been looking into a HD slim s with the army green paint. or a Dyna wide glide. do you have any in put on that?

i love viking saddlebags but they don't make it for street rod 750, i wonder why. Any suggestions for good saddlebags for this bike? Prefer something that cab locked.

I'm not even a HD fan and this bike looks sweet. I have to see it in person. Thanks Lemmy!

Meh, I'd test it maybe. I really want Harley to make another XR1200. The roadster was close but not quite there.

I love the first ride review, but I can't get over how good the audio is! What's the set up you're using?

A number of other reviewers noted a high heat output that can be uncomfortable around the thigh area. Is that something that can be fixed or adjusted without negatively affecting the performance of the bike or would anyone who buys this bike just be stuck it?

I didn't know the HD Street Rod was an electric bike? I know the mic is on the inside of the helmet so it doesn't "hear" the pipes as much but dang even with stock pipes on a small motor HD, it should at least hear something?

Hmm, I think the demographic HD is aiming for will definitely buy this. I'm almost willing to give them my 💰.

I did about 200 miles on a 750 last year in one day, and agree that fit and finish looked poor. Engine definitely was its best asset! I did not like the seat nor ergos.

So this intrigues me quite a bit.
