NATO to send 700 more troops to Kosovo to contain violence: Stoltenberg

The NATO military alliance will deploy an additional 700 troops to Kosovo, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday, a day after 30 NATO soldiers and 52 protesters were hurt in clashes

"We have decided to deploy 700 more troops from the operational reserve force for western Balkans and to put an additional battalion of reserve forces on high alertness, so they can also be deployed if needed," Stoltenberg told a press conference in Oslo.

Speaking alongside Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere ahead of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in the Norwegian capital, Stoltenberg said "such attacks are unacceptable and must stop."

Plus, Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti said on Tuesday that far-right Serb groups were responsible for clashes the previous day with NATO troops in the country's north. Unrest in the region has intensified since ethnic Albanian mayors took office in the country's northern Serb-majority area after votes last month.

FINAL APPEAL.
