im a web developer who use JS for my job and thought maybe i can make games using JS since i already know it, tried most of the engines mentioned in the video used playcanvas for 2-3 years and my conclusion is dont use JS to make a game, its simply inefficent, with the time and effort you spend to make a semi decent game with JS you can do much more with unity or godot even if you havent used their respective scripting languages before.

Honorary mention to GameMaker, which is going to support JS in the upcoming runtime rewrite (whenever that finally comes out).

I hope my BeetPx pixel art engine (or rather framework?) will one day become big enough to get included on such list 😄

V8 is not *THE* JS engine, it's *A* JS engine, specifically the one used by Chromium and Node.js (and some other things.)

Great coverage, and useful for another video would be engines that deploy to WEB only and other platforms, because in this video it wasn't obvious the capabilities each entry had.

2:17 "Microsoft is the big sponsor of this project, so it is going to stay around for quite a while."
Embrace, extend, and extinguish.

I use Kaplay... very good and intuitive for basic to medium 2D games... don't use it if your game needs demanding physics though... in that case I recommend Godot

the phaser editor is not free. you have to pay a subscription.

Well. I figured the Sphere Game Engine would be relegated to obscurity due to lack of decent marketing, but not to the degree that it's not even mentioned in this video even though its most recent update was within the past few months.

When you say you recommend micro studio for first time game developers? Are you also considering first time programmers?

You forgot GameMaker.
They are adding JS/TS and C# support.
It's the only game engine with JS/TS first class support which can export to consoles.
It's also cheap.
Cheaper than Godot btw.

Great video. Thanks. I would love to see a rundown video on physics engines (I using unity but so far it's physics are missing some fairly important things (for me))

Game Maker can be added here, but I think it'll be added with LTS 2025 which I think is around Juneish?
