Believe it or not Peru and Ecuador are actually quite different, albeit with many similarities, like the language... today I share what stands out most to me separating the two... After having travelled and lived extensively in both...

Spent 8 years in ecuador and 4 or so in Peru. It's not true, no trash everywhere. Poverty in ecuador is way way worse than peru. Peru has a much healthier society, less income gaps, less corruption, generally way more honest people and much much safer. What Ecuadorians say about their neighbours isn't true. They have no idea. Peru has a million times more freedom also. Ecuadorian totalitarian bureaucracy is brutal. Where's Peru everything is easy.

Very interesting but could you please elaborate on other aspects of the differences between the two? I am considering Arequipa.

Alrigth here, Hes clearly a Ecuadorian decendant or at least have family or friends living in Ecuador, and it''s ok if you want to defend that land, but Comparing one of the most attractive, economically powerful and turistic country in south america with ecuador??, Soryy but there's no point of comparison, the difference you mentioned it's called geography, the life level in Peru is way more higher than the ecuadorian one, there's also more places to live, better food, more turistic attractions and guess what, Ecuador being a small country in comparison with Peru has a highest crime rate than it, not only comparing it with Perú, is one of the highest of South America only behind Colombia and Venezuela, so YES you can even say that Perú is safer, and for the readers the hate between Perú and ecuador exist for a long time ago, and it increased for the war Ecuador has lost against Perú, so this video was made for someone with hurt feelings...

I recommend Mr. Second Passport to visit more places in Peru than Tumbes. Although the Peruvian coast is a desert, the Andes and the Amazon are green.

For me, the main difference between Peru and Ecuador is the level of development. Peru is more developed, more modern and more internationally oriented. Results among others are lower prices for almost everything and a wider choice of products. I remember for example that 6 years ago curved TV screens were widely available in Peru while there weren’t any in Ecuador. That’s still the case with many products.

As in Ecuador, the level of poverty is high, but the wealthier parts of Lima look much better and are safer than the wealthier parts of Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca.

I’ve been in both counties and the only difference I saw is that in Ecuador everything is smaller….

Hardy an in-depth analysis; you could actually have provided some further details besides climatic differences and rubbish blowing in the wind. Really not a fair assessment on Peru and I am not disputing your observations, BUT to be fairer a better analysis is warranted.

I love dry, but... I'm told Peru is ultraconservative, which severely hinders social development and results in things like those you mentioned (poverty, little to no trash disposal).
I still think Peru is super interesting, but it sounds like I really wouldn't want to live there.

Have you ever been to Arequipa? It is comparable to Cuenca -- I could live there.

I like desert but I can do without the trash blowing around. I hate rain though. I already live in Washington State where it's cold and rainy nearly 9 months out of the year.

Peru is actually one of the most diverse countries in the world when it comes to climate zones. It's certainly more than just deserts. It's one of the most beautiful countries in the world especially once you get up into the mountains. The downside of Peru is its government. A lot of instability came with their extremist COVID lockdowns that didn't work at all. It just kept people from working and providing for their families. They went thru three presidents within weeks. Now, they've got a socialist for president who is probably going to make them into the next Venezuela. Very sad for a country that has so much potential.
