Harri the PTA is the Parent Teacher Association. They used to RULE the schools. Like when my sister's teacher (in 1970) told our Mom that my sis should NOT wear pants to school. Mom told her "If you want to buy her dresses feel free but she won't wear one for me & she won't wear one for YOU."

Yes, this is a classic story-telling song, sung brilliantly by the gorgeous Jeannie C Riley .. I think that the applause from the audience soon after she starts singing is because they recognised the song ( it was a big hit ), rather than anyone actually being from Harper Valley, which I believe is a fictional place .. I think you'd be surprised. We (Who lived through this music) We DO know how lucky we were. I'm going to sound "old" when I say that I find very little today that compares to music from 60's/70's/80's/90's. It's depressing. So much more "computerized". I love this song! And it actually was made into a comedy movie in 1978, starring Barbara Eden and Annette Fabray.. The song was written by the wonderful singer/songwriter Tom T. Hall.

She's always reminded me a little of Bobby Gentry who sang Fancy and the Ode to Billie Joe but they were from the same late 60s era and had full long hairstyles.
