Menendez brothers: LA County prosecutor recommends resentencing in 1989 murder case | FULL

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón is recommending the resentencing of Erik and Lyle Menendez, he announced in a press conference on Thursday. “After very careful review of all the arguments that were made for people on both sides of this equation, I came to a place where I believe that under the law, resentencing is appropriate, and I am going to recommend that to a court tomorrow,” Gascón said.
“I want to underline: they were horrible acts. There is no excuse for murder, and I will never imply that what we're doing here is to excuse our behaviour,” Gascón added. “But I [also] understand how sometimes people get desperate. We often see women, for instance, who have been battered for years and sometimes they will murder their abuser out of desperation.”
Gascón explained that the legal team will be recommending to the court on Friday that the Menendez brothers would be re-sentenced for murder, and that it would mean they would be eligible for parole immediately, given their young ages at the time of the murders. He added
Currently, the brothers are serving life in prison without parole for the 1989 shotgun murders of their parents. Jose Menendez was shot in the back of the head and Kitty Menendez was shot 15 times. At the time of the murder, Lyle was 21 and Erik was 18. Interest in the case was revived recently following the release of the Netflix series, "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story."
