I lost my job just before P5R came to Xbox. Of course I played through it during unemployment and after a long ordeal of retraining and finding a new job I started a decent job 3 months later. On the way to the interview I listened to this song and I’ll never forget coming out of the headquarters for the company in the pouring rain in London and putting this song on straight away after calling my dad and telling him I don’t think I got the job. I was hired a week or so later and I won’t lie I cried from joy. I was promoted 7 months into the role and went to work the next morning. I drove in to work that morning and it began to rain, I put my playlist on shuffle and this song began to play and it took me back to being stood in the rain listening to this when my life was at it’s lowest, and I pulled over to the side of the road and just wept. You can be at your lowest and be just moments away from a life-changing scenario. Never forget where you came from and how far you’ve come

The simple removal of the percussion changes the vibe of this song so much. It feels so quiet like how the streets would be when it’s raining.

Unpopular opinion: I like this version more than the regular beneath the mask

Beneath the mask is a reference to Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Masque of the Red Death”. The short story focuses on a masquerade ball set in Poe’s Abbey. The Ball is crashed by a figure wearing a mask and cloak that turns out to be the red death. When the Red Death in Edgar Allen Poe’s ‘The Masque of the Red Death’ loses its mask at the ball, there is nothing behind it. The ‘shapeshifter / At Poe’s masquerade’ will be revealed as nothing but ‘dark’ if the mask is taken off.

This is seriously, no joke, one of the most beautiful game soundtracks I've ever heard. I've never heard a game that perfectly encapsulates the feeling of rain gently hitting your head, and the calming sound of water drops falling into the ground.. To be visible in large puddles a few hours later.
