Just a year ago now we were in Turkey, wading in the calcified waters of Hieropolis. Our guide mentioned that by the time the waters got to Laodicea it was no longer hot and was ineffective. The whole trip was a wonderful experience.

Jesus means exactly what He said. Either we are walking by the Spirit, free from condemnation, or we are walking by the flesh and we are under condemnation. In Romans 8:1, Paul writes: “There is therefore now no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus, WHO WALK NOT ACCORDING TO THE FLESH BUT ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT.” The lukewarm, are those who think they can bear good fruit and bad fruit and still be saved. We (me included) need to get serious about our faith! If we choose to walk by the Spirit, the Spirit will give us the power to live in obedience. ✝️🙏

Context is so key, Voddie is right.
Exposition is powerful here. It's the same thing where Jesus called the Samaritan woman a dog, the context was how the culture was back then, relating back to that. So the reader needs to understand context.

When teaching on the book of Revelation, it is of utmost importance to know the history of these seven churches or you will spiritualize all the texts and miss out on some rich literal meaning. I'm so blessed that a long time ago- I got a hold of John MacArthur's commentary on the book of Revelation, and he shares exactly what Voddie is saying here. These great Bible expositors are God's blessing to us for such a time! Always enjoy Voddie's teaching on anything in the Bible!
