EA Breaks Support Once Again

“As part of our ongoing efforts to create a safe and fair experience for all players, we are adding EA anticheat to EA SPORTS™ WRC from June 2024,” reads the EA announcement. “Protecting the competitive integrity of our leaderboards is integral to providing a fun, fair and authentic rally experience for everyone.”

Except the Steam Deck players, that is. If you were hoping to hear that the omission of the Deck from the supported platforms was just a fluke, that is not the case: “EA SPORTS™ WRC will not run on the native Steam OS for Steam Deck following the release of EA anticheat.”

The announcement adds that “EA SPORTS™ WRC has officially been categorised as “Unsupported” on Steam Deck since its release in 2023,” which is technically correct but also objectively disappointing, as the game ran just fine on the device up until now.

JSAUX’s New Dock is Really Cool

Here's the inputs it has:

1* USB-C port for connecting to the handheld device.

1* USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps).

2* USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps).

1* Gigabit Ethernet (1000Mbps).

1* USB-C (PD 100W input).

New Steam Deck Dock is CHEAP

The official Anker Amazon storefront is now offering its 6-in-1 USB-C Docking Station for gaming handhelds down at $39.09 shipped. This relatively new release landed on Amazon for the first time back in the early spring and it has now returned to the lowest price we have tracked since. This is the second chance we have tracked to score a deal, with today’s 15% discount matching the lowest we have seen yet. Ready to stow your handheld in a neat and tidy hub station, you can also use it to link your machine up with the big-screen or any other display with an HDMI port.

You’re looking at a 6-in-1 USB-C Docking Station specifically made by Anker for handheld gaming consoles like for Steam Deck, ROG Ally (the new Ally X is now shipping!), and other portable rigs. The idea here is to allow gamers to “connect, charge, and play without limits” by way of a 100W Power Delivery port for faster charging action alongside a 4K HDMI output, a 1Gb/s Ethernet port, and a pair of USB-A ports with one USB-C port running at 5Gb/s.

The 4K at 60Hz resolutions via the HDMI port (the USB-C port doesn’t support screen mirroring) are at the ready, while the USB jacks can also be great for adding some mice and keyboard action to the setup in order to enhance the big screen experience.

ah.... allow me to explain.... EA doens't make games for gamers, they make games for shareholders.

before having a launcher, EA needs to have games worth launching

Oh, the double DRM _definitely_ has a purpose. Not a good one, but a purpose. Multiple, even.

First, it lets them control stuff like Steam Family sharing. Or region locking people who are on vacation.

Second, the telemetry. It can tell them who is playing what and how _exactly, _ without relying on a middleman.

Tell people you want them to pirate without telling them to pirate.

If you stay deck ready you never have to get deck ready!

I keep trying to play a far cry on my lunch break. But my steam deck keeps trying to log in to ubisoft. So I have to turn on a mobile hotspot, just to get into the game. I really really think this is just anti consumer behavior. Apparently if you pirate games, it bypasses all that. So you're basically getting a better experience, which is crazy

I just received my OLED. I've been enjoying it quite a lot. I have many hours in POE, and I am going to attempt to get all in order. I want my loot filter! I love my Deck!!! And I'm a senior gamer!

I will never support kernel level anticheat. It's essentially asking you to install a rootkit before you can play their video game. The recent Crowdstrike snafu tells you all you need to know about what can happen when you let third parties access the kernel when they don't need to.

That is why I haven't bought any ea games since around 2012.

Isn't Helldivers 2 still delisted in a lot of places? Yeah, they stepped back with the launcher, but they still stopped a lot of players from playing the game.

I remember playing Remnant 2 when I first got my Steam Deck, then an update happened and it stopped being supported. It kind of made me use my Steam Deck less for a while.
