Only 37/229 harassment ratio??? My profile picture is an apple and literally all, no exaggeration 100%, of my inbox is harassment or verbal abuse

As a woman, that’s why I keep all my profiles masculine or androgynous. I also have Voicemod on PC that allows me to change my voice and sound male. It’s hilarious just how much of a difference that makes; I’m treated fairly and harassed SIGNIFICANTLY less.

Different way to present these numbers:

- over 90% of the opposing players did NOT message
- almost 99% of opposing players did NOT harrass

This tells you that the overwhelming majority of the players were well-adjusted people. Certainly there are people with a raging hate boner towards certain groups (in this case women) but most people are just, people.

If "quit" here equals to "resign", this is an interesting fact. In over the board chess, people tend to resign less against women, so this guy found a different social dynamic in online chess.

reminds me of that study done a while back where low-skilled gamers where shown to treat their female teammates worse in comparison to higher skilled gamers

This reminds me of a Tumblr post, about how in groups of male chimps low status members of the group will harass women attempting to enter the group for fear of them disrupting the social hierarchy, and how in a 2015 study of Halo 3 found a similar correlation between low skill players acting hostilely to women, with high skill players generally interacting more positively with women.
