ICELAND F ROADS IN 4K - F338 Skjaldbreiðarvegur

Показать описание
Skjaldbreiðarvegur (F338) connects Kaldidalur (550) with Kjalvegur (35) just north of Gullfoss and the Golden Circle. It was built as a service road for the power lines that you'll follow along the entire drive. If you are into geology, volcanos, and lava fields this is the drive for you, but be prepared.
My day started by leaving Husafell and driving Kaldidalur (550) to the start of F338. I drove F338 to 35, then slept at Flúðir.
F338 is a rough road with a few challenging features. There are two river crossings, lava fields with sand storms, washed out sections of the road and deep ruts to navigate. Like with all F roads, it should never be attempted in a 2WD vehicle.
If traveling on F338 from west to east, you are committing to 95% of the 3-4 hour drive BEFORE you encounter the two river crossings. If the rivers are too deep to cross, you will have to turn around and go back the way you came. So be prepared to be on the road for 8+ hours before attempting this drive.
If you are unsure about the river crossings, it is a much safer bet to travel from east to west, where the rivers are close to the intersection with 35.
To expand on my comments in the video about the second river crossing...I should have walked the crossing, I should not have gone on the left side, and I went a bit too fast creating the wake on the hood. This was my first real river crossing and I learned a lot by the end of the 3 week trip in the van and many more river crossings.
Let me know if you guys would prefer to see 550 or 35 next!
