CANZUK vs. The European Union - What's The Difference?

What is the difference between CANZUK and the European Union? How would free movement, trade and foreign policy cooperation between Canada, Australia, New Zealand & the UK differ to that of the 27 EU member states?

As a Brit, I think this should have happened sixty years ago! When the Commonwealth was established and the Empire binned, we should have done this rather than that experiment with the eventual EU. It was rank stupidity on Britain's part that we didn't.

I know that there are some naysayers and they are totally entitled to their opinions, but I am delighted and heartened that so much of the population of our Commonwealth cousins and their leaders seem to be open to at least discussing the idea. I would LOVE to see this happen. We can't afford to be isolationist.

I never felt easy about how Australia was treated when we opted to become a part of Europe. It always smacked of betrayal to me. I absolutely LOVE the Aussies for the welcome they have given us, the friendliness of Aussie posts and willingness to trade with us as old friends as though nothing has happned in the last 50 years. It is almost as though Aussies know that ordinary Britons are and should be natural friends with ordinary Aussies . (This is so.)

God bless you Aussies and other Canzukers. We are natural allies. It doesn't have to be forced like it was with Europe.

Wilderness fix tramping around Mount Cook, Queenstown and Milford Sound. Culture fix in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, York, Bath etc.
Poutine in Montreal, snags and Lamingtons in Oz, Hangi in Auckland, Fish'n'chips all over the UK and beer everywhere.

From a Brit, this is music to my ears! Had the European Union just remained a body for exactly what CANZUK stands for, I wouldn't have voted leave in 2016. Instead it became almost an autocratic political block and it made our future as a sovereign nation all the more uncertain. When the transition period ends in December, lets make CANZUK a reality!
