Cardboard designs like that are really strong. Biggest downside is if one piece gets bent or damaged it will lose all integrity.

I grew up in a lower income family. My bed was scrap wood nailed / screwed together. It was primarily supported with bricks but had decorative legs that were recycled off a stool or something. There's no way I would spend $150 on board. Despite current lumber cost I'm pretty sure I can throw together something for the same price if not less.

Just buy a mattress that can sit on the floor. There are some that use springs and memory foam. The springs keep the bed off the ground and improve air circulation.
