from 'Johnny Boy Would Love This... A Tribute to John Martyn'

Gonna get on up and fly away
Go on out for another way
And a new day's dawn
Going to carry on.

Keep on loving while your love is strong
Keep on loving 'til your love is gone away.

Gonna get on up and fly away
Go on after another way and a new day has dawned
Gonna carry on

Well you're very lovely, going to take you home
They say you'll be my ruin
Cos I love you so
I just love you so.

Keep on loving 'til your love is gone
Keep on loving while your love is strong
All the way.

I'm a huge John Martyn fan and I adore this version, it's a fitting tribute from one extraordinarily talented man to another of the same ilk, fell asleep listening to this on my headphones last night, so relaxing.

From an absolute gem of a tribute album. Johnnie Boy Would Love This. Fabulous versions of some of the loveliest songs ever written. Why isn't it better known?

John was all about layers and this version takes the biscuit, there's jangly, wangly, fondly bongly and lot of John we love youly. We Love You John.

Been a Cure fan from day one. I
heard Boys Don't Cry on a compilation album(20 of another kind ) when I was about 13 yrs old.
Ashamidly didn't discover the beautiful music of John Martyn till a lot further down the road.
I was very lucky to see him in intimate surroundings in early 2000s.
Both great artists in their own right and a beautiful tribute.
Robert Smith has turned this song into his own and I think John Martyn would have approved .

How did this song escape me for the past 22 years?

This and the faster paced remix by Roosevelt are both amazing.

I honestly never even thought to look for a cover of this song. John is a musical inspiration and anyone who even gives him the time of day is alright in my book.

This is a tribute done the right way, with love and respect for the original version by John martyn -not trying to eclipse it, just celebrating it

As a tribute, it is apparent RS has put his talent into reflecting the beauty of this song. I love the original, its warm, aural spaces and it's sweet, melancholic poignancy is JM's gift. The 'birdsong' notes are just one facet which Robert's version's sonic palette; with its multi-hued spectrum, chooses to work into the rhythm rather than being isolated in the foundational piece. By taking the next link to the maestro's work I'm sure the circle is completed; from deep appreciation in this interpretation back to its inspiring source. Dissonance is still musical.
