Tip 4: desensitization works, if done early.

I played fireworks sounds on slowly increasing volume levels on my home theater system while playing with my puppy and giving lots of love and rewards to desensitize him from the sound of fireworks and it WORKS.

The only thing he cares about when people are blowing stuff up is that there are people in the cul de sac so he barks at them. Big old booms going on and he didn’t care.

I learned a few more tricks for my pups! I gave them doggy calming chews for the night. It seemed to help a little. Now I know to tire them out more and cotton balls or tv with a timer to turn off. Thank you!!! 🙏

Seeing mature and serious dog trainer say “ that’s what she said” is rare to catch on camera

I take mine out and walk them around during the bulk of it. It's helped more than trying to hide from the loud scary sounds. They start out anxious and end the walk with high tails and prancing paws. But I can do this because mine was picked specifically for his ability to "recover" and bounce back from scary things, so I'm using him to teach the younger one to do the same.

Thanks for all this information. Just saw this 1 hour ago and went to tire my puppy. First 4th of July for my dog so definitely some of us are still learning.

I found some chamomile chews for dogs. It really helped my dig who is sound sensitive. I also stood with her and kept her attention on me

I have a 9 month old GSD that’s been raised on Garret’s DIY Canine. He doesn’t care about fireworks- in fact he wants to see them. Went for a night walk while they were going off, fire trucks passing then we sat on the porch. He sat there with a big dog smile like a little kid looking up at the sky at them.
I lit two sparklers, which he had never seen before, one for me and one for him. Listen to Garret. My dog does not stress unless I’m stressed.

I got an 8-month-old labrador, and she did not care at all about the fireworks. I think early life exposure to loud noises did her alot of good.
