I use stenography to type very fast. The technical term is to "write."

StenoKeyboards aims to bring stenography to everyone. Anyone can learn steno.

This is a Plover demo of stenography using a hobbyist mechanical keyboard called the Uni. It can also be considered a sound test for the Uni v4, stock Gateron clear switches. The typing website is monkeytype.

Whoever invented this form of typing is a genius. Insanely fast.

Steno can have applications outside of fast wpms and transcription too! In the open source stenography community, there are many examples of people who use it as a full keyboard replacement. It's very understated how useful it is having any keyboard shortcut or unicode symbol being just a single stroke or two, and the systems people make to consistently approach these commands and make them straightforward to learn is absolutely incredible. I myself ditched using standard keyboards for computer usage a year and a half ago and have had a grand time using my xbox controller for steno. And unlike with learning different keyboard layouts like colemak or dvorak, when sitting back down on a qwerty keyboard, I find my skill with regular typing has not decreased in anyway. Not that I would ever use a standard keyboard anymore unless I'm forced to just because stenography is just so much faster and ergonomic steno is. Without exaggeration stenography has changed my whole life and was well worth the effort to learn for me. The first few months are grueling since you have to start from 0 to 20 wpm and be stuck there for weeks or months, but it is so worth it. To anyone who is thinking of starting, don't wait!
