Scientists have no idea what this mystery light is & said it's unknown to science. We take a look at what this mystery light is #youtubeshorts

For several years now, scientists have observed a mysterious light above Canada. It's been given the name of Steve, but the thin river of purple light is a complete mystery to science.

Researchers have said that it seems to stretch hundreds of miles into space. Although it just looks like part of the northern lights, a new study published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, revealed that it doesn't match an aurora at all, but something entirely different.

Thank you for watching!

STEVE ("Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement") is an atmospheric optical phenomenon that appears as a purple and green light ribbon in the sky, named in late 2016 by aurora watchers from Alberta, Canada. According to analysis of satellite data from the European Space Agency's Swarm mission, the phenomenon is caused by a 25 km (16 mi) wide ribbon of hot plasma at an altitude of 450 km (280 mi), with a temperature of 3, 000 °C (3, 270 K; 5, 430 °F) and flowing at a speed of 6 km/s (3.7 mi/s) (compared to 10 m/s (33 ft/s) outside the ribbon). The phenomenon is not rare, but had not been investigated and described scientifically prior to that time.

I live in Edmonton and I have seen this. I was told they are light pillars. Very creepy though.

The Sun has been sending a lot our way lately, making the atmosphere get really jiggy with it. Very pretty, though.

If you follow the light of Steve to it’s end, legend says you will find a Super Saiyin.

My guess is it's a symptom of the Earth's magnetic field getting ready to flip.

Kind of reminds me of a sun ray that snuck past the blinds. Like a ray of energy punched through earth’s magnetic field.

Maybe it's the Rainbow Bridge to Asgardia?

I hate when this guy does this over dramatic commentary, he's the type of guy that when NASA says an asteroid will pass by the Earth, he'll make a video saying scientists are saying that the asteroid will hit the Earth.

They should have called it after the person that actually first spotted it
