This makes me think of Voyage of the Dawn Treader, where C. S. Lewis wrote:
“In our world, " said Eustace, "a star is a huge ball of flaming gas."
"Even in your world, my son, that is not what a star is, but only what it is made of.”
[Ramandu's reply]

I think the church fathers didn’t use the word “consciousness” just because it wasn’t part of the philosophical language of the time. Fr Dumitru Staniloae talks about this topic specifically in the first chapter of volume one of his Experience of God series and he uses the word consciousness. Highly suggest anyone who’s interested in this topic check that book out

There is a difference between consciousness as internal experience and consciousness as manifesting in external reality . And it seems Jonathan thinks there is a strong correlation between the two, with which I agree, that's also why he doesn't make a clear ditinction between them. For example you project an internal category of a chair unto a collection of its parts because you have your own purpose, like you are looking for somewhere to sit for a meeting, and at the same time that purpose comes from outside of you and already manifests as a hierarchy in external reality: people do meetings, so they have a room and they have chairs inside, which they buy from factories which make chairs for people. Your own consiousness experiencing the world is some form of participation in external consciousness. You perceive the world with purpose and care and the world is built with care and purpose.

WHOA!
I love when simple things become profound via a nicely wrapped explanation.

That which is a truly "real event" is relevant. All else is a misconception of perception due to ego or ignorance.
But even if something is relevant, we have to discern whether we have the time and energy to "pay" attention to it.
But that's why we all have each other. To divide up our time and energy amongst each other and address to the totality of relevance collectively.

Thanks, the sun coming up in the morning is a great example of this problem. I’ll pose it to my brother who has thus far denied the importance of religion, that seems illusive to some

How does having a" hierarchy of care" solves nihilism? The question wasn't answered yet in this video

You can't say that water is JUST a bunch of molecules. If you know a little bit more about chemistry and you are not "limited" in your consciousness to be a materialist then you can put the chemical characteristics of water in perspective to other compounds (whether they are solids, liquids or gases) and YOU WOULD KNOW that there is nothing ordinary about the chemistry of water. IT IS ABSOLUTELY MAGICAL even from the mere chemical aspect. (I use the word MERE because shallow scientists would use it - but there's nothing "mere" about chemistry).
Water is a totally unique compound by it's chemical characteristics and it is no wonder that there is NO life without it, just like the carbon atom has a unique place in the periodic table and IT HAS TO BE CARBON for us to have life and organic chemistry.

It is shallow people who refuse to see and recognize this SCIENTIFIC FACT. When I say shallow people I mean those who measure easily a huge discrepancy between what they know and what the average human knows but NEVER measure or even consider the infinitely bigger discrepancy between what they know and what the total knowledge of the existing reality is.
If what I said was unclear - I'm speaking of the scientists blinded with arrogance in the light of the immense body of knowledge that they hold BUT with no humility in the light of ignorance of the undiscovered secrets of nature which are infinitely larger then what the knowledge is.

It's funny that you say that people have to "get back into their body". It's ironic that the most materialistically minded people have the most abstract "building block" view of how reality works, to the point where they don't even remember their material reality inside their physical body. Perhaps because, once you separate your body into components, it stops being a body. I was absolutely like this when I was a materialist, nihilist, atheist. It was this symbolic way of thinking, although I didn't realize that's what it was, that allowed me to take my first steps out of it.

A revisiting of the problem of universals. The interest in consciousness will lead the pantheism as opposed to o a personal doalogic relationship with a person. Not a consciousness.

I have a suggestion. Collective consciousness = society = "the world".

I'm trying to piece together.... Why the Bible? I understand that it's an attempt to manifest the patterns into language, but what makes it a logos that other narratives can't achieve? How do you tie in some of the more barbaric aspects of Ezekiel or Leviticus into the same narrative of Christ without there being a resistance?

Sigh, how do you know consciousness really comes first?

If we just look at the components that comprise any given thing it ignores the intelligence behind the assembly of these components. You can't assemble a computer by throwing all the pieces that make one up together, nor can you just produce a drug by throwing molecules together. There is a method to the assembly that requires a certain intentionality and knowledge of how to perform said tasks. Every circuit board needs to be positioned and connected correctly, just like the molecules of a drug need to be in the exact correct positions or the effects will be vastly different, just as serotonin and psilocybin while being basically the same components, but assembled in such a way to produce vastly different perceptions of reality itself. It's not blindly assembled... it can't be or neither it nor we would be.
