Watch Me Fail at Making Pottery

It’s been a while… Here’s a collection of recent fails and bloopers from this studio, including handles pulled too vigorously and excessively trimmed pots. The latter one tends to be where I accidentally destroy most of my work. Either turning away more than what’s appropriate or trimming when the clay is too wet or too firm. So, here’s proof that things often go wrong, even for me.

those sighs are so personal 😭 but videos like these are honestly comforting to me, because even someone who makes super refined + polished pottery makes mistakes sometimes and it doesn't make them a worse artist/craftsman. thank you for showing these! :)

Thank you. I feel so much better now being the queen of failure at my studio.

This is so encouraging to see as a slightly more advanced beginner. Not many people like to showcase their failures. But I think it would help everyone if we did, as you've done here.
Thank you for being a humble potter. ❤ All of your work inspires me immensely.

The quiet *karate chops through the failure* speaks to me on a spiritual level

I’m just now learning how to center the clay and I feel so lost. It’s my 4th class and I’m still dumbfounded. Like watching the pros make mistakes. Thanks for sharing.

Videos like this are so reassuring for beginners, when clicking or tapping on videos that teach you how to do a certain thing the people in the video doing it in a way seem invincible, so when posting compilations of mistakes or fails it makes the stress of using clay go away.

I love how controlled your facial expressions are; so matter of fact. Even when crushing one down or letting a handle pulled too thin drop into tne bowl. . . just cool and calm. I'd like to see the outtakes, LOL Thanks for sharing this. . .

I was amazed by your products and your experience in your videos. It's very comforting to know that behind every successful piece, you also deal with the same issues that we do.

I really needed to see this. You’ve been goals since I started and your vulnerability shows me it’s okay to mess up sometimes. Nobody is perfect. Not even Florian! Thanks for sharing ❤

Seeing one with your experience, suffering the trials and tribulations of clay gives me hope. Also, I think the smashing a wrecked piece on the wheel is a universal reaction to utter frustration. I do it all the time, haha.

Someone so refined and so skilled still messes up sometimes...and it's always funny 🤣

I wish I had half the patience you have when failures happen.

just wanted to say your videos have given me a lot of motivation to make pottery myself. I just made my first successful bowl today, and I don’t think I wouldve been able to this quickly without your videos helping me, so thank you :)

No😢 My pottery hero has flaws too😭.
Guess you can't win them all. More respect to you sir. You are a true artist. I love drinking hot chocolate while watching you throw pots and other pieces, especially the firing videos. So cozy and homely.
