The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had some struggles in their television offerings, but the recent teaser for Wonder Man suggests something truly meta and unique that could be one of their most original offerings yet. Following in the footsteps of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, the upcoming Marvel release appears to take a humorous and original look at the world of superhero cinema from a completely different context, set in Los Angeles. Simon Williams' powers do not seem to be on display in the teaser, which focuses on the world itself.

While the series is still a fair distance away, with a projected release in December 2025, the Wonder Man trailer teases how the story of Simon Williams will be explored in a refreshing way. Superhero veteran star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stars as the titular hero, fresh from his role as Black Manta in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. This new role seems to explore a different side of Abdul-Mateen, whose star has been rising in Hollywood these past years for good reason, and is set to rise further with Wonder Man and its unique narrative choices.

I am a nice young 72 year old man. Maybe the question should be why were there never any minority groups shown as major heroes in the movies, TV or comic books when I was a kid? Why were white men playing Chinese, native Americans or Mexican minorities in the movies and TV shows. And of course with very few exceptions the early comic heros were all white. The answer is simple it was a white centric world. Times are now catching up and the people in charge can now rethink the character and change the race or perhaps sex of the character. Wonderman to me was not a very major hero in the Marvel universe so I personally don't care if he's black or white. I care mainly about the actor and whether they have the personality to make the character interesting and relatable.

I’m less bothered by Simon being a black dude, than I am about how having a deranged white supremacist brother makes any sense now. Eric Williams (The Grim Reaper) was one of Marvel’s first truly racist villains that was not a Nazi. He was a complete maniac who was obsessed with white skin. His lover was the albino mutant, Nekra, who he would pathologically refuse to acknowledge as being an African-American woman.

I know Wonder Man was white in the comics. Warner Bros made the Penguin female in that new Batman series. I think that worse.
Wonder Man being black will be fine if they put our a good story. I loved the fact that Trevor is back, though.

Race swapping Wonder Man screws up a lot of stuff..like his brother the Grim Reaper and his entire origin. Just stick to the comics...my God how hard is that?
