Something I just noticed is that she carries the bat under her hair

Which would make it a lot harder to swing, especially because of the nails, they'd snag, a regular bat would slide out pretty easily

I dunno if it was intentional or just a layering thing, but she does actually not really want to hurt people, just wants people to leave her alone, so I'd consider it canon, not necessarily that she actually carries her bat like that (or that she carries a bat at all for that matter) but that she symbolically holds her bat in a way that looks intimidating, but is the equivalent to peace-tying a sword

And of course, headspace Aubrey carries the mailbox in full ready to swing position, cause Sunny sees her as a lot more willing to actually turn to violence than she really is. She scares him

Aubrey... An experience of feeling like you're abandoned by everyone you loved with nothing left but loneliness and sadness that get later replaced with Anger. Anger towards the world and towards oneself. It was satisfying to see that her friends didn't let her dwell in that state for too long.

Two other interesting facts about Aubrey:

1. Aubrey's birthday is on 05/23, that is, her birthday is on the 143rd day of the year (the number 143 represents the word I love you, and we know how much this number is related to Mari, this makes Aubrey's longing for Mari even deeper).

2. The blue bowtie that Aubrey wears belonged to Mari, we can see this in the calendar project in the March photo.

I love how well of a developed character she is. You would think she was just a mean girl but really she was doing her best to process her grief by going to church. The pink hair wasn't some rebellious thing but was a reminder of mari

The scene with Aubrey in the church is one of my favorite moments in the whole game. It's a boss battle, and she's the instigator... but you can't help but feel like she's really the victim. The churchgoers are whispering about how she's such a delinquent, judging her not-so-subtly.

Aubrey is angry. She's hurt, and she's lashing out. She knows how bad this looks, and I know it hurts her to be perceived so poorly by the people in her neighborhood, but she doesn't care anymore. She probably feels like she deserves it, or that it just doesn't matter. All that matters to her now is that Mari is gone.

I might be wrong but during the fights with her she never actually attacks you with the bat, she only kicks and spits at you. Which had me thinking she didn't actually want to hurt sunny, she just wanted to be left alone

Aubrey is everything about strong female character writing done right. Her strength is a persona, a mask that she grew from being traumatized in the very core of her soul. She is pretty much the weakest soul of them all and her persona actually damages her because it won't let her be comforted by those who care about her, it entombs her in a mountain of ice where she will never be dug out. I know a bunch of chicks who are like this IRL and she is the best representation for them.

Aubrey’s design in Faraway town is my favorite because I personally think she’s really pretty, and she my favorite character overall because of her role in the story.

I mean, it's clear from Headspace that Aubrey was always a bit of a tomboy, and in there she has various melee weapons to smack the fuck out of enemies with. But I do think you're probably right with some connection to Mari in the choice of a bat specifically. As well as it just being a general tropey weapon of "delinquent" characters.
